Read In Summer

Slowlying pressing on, little by little.

Big ideas and thought provoking content remain from the little material I covered this summer, Desiring God by John Piper and The Gospel Of The Kingdom by George Eldon Ladd.

While this summer stirred around time, I found some to go over these two books. Ideally, I cover more ground to read about different topics, but these books stuck with me. While other life events distracted and pulled time from covering more material, I appreciate the depth of content I covered. Desiring God by John Piper and The Gospel of the Kingdom by George Eldon Ladd are remarkable books I highly recommend.

Read in January

Works completed in January

Lit! a book about books. Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters about raising girls. The Signal and the Noise, about how to our views of the world influence our decisions.

An excellent book to begin the year, Lit! focused my reading and gave me a vision for a life of reading... Dr. Meeker draws on her years of clinical experience to teach us the benefits of a strong father-daughter relationship. She offers ten key insights for fathers in relating to their girls... Nate Silver intertwines statistics and stories so much, you don't even notice you're learning. From the housing collapse, to baseball, to poker he illustrates how probability estimations are properly or poorly applied and their consequence.

Lit! A Christian Guide to Reading Books

By Tony Reinke

Lit! edifies the novice and seasoned reader with useful reflection on purpose, focus, and practice. It helps us see literature enlightened by the Light of the world.

Lit! is split into two main sections, the theology of reading and the practice of reading. By answering the question Why read? it motivated me to actively participate in section How do I read? One major appreciation of Lit! pertains to its well organized structure. Not only does this allow you to easily follow Reinke's thought process, but also allows you to quickly reference specific portions of the text.

Taking the GRE

An attempt at the test for graduate schools

Many ways exist to study and perform well on the Graduate Record Examination. Off my recent test and studying, we'll discuss the various methods available.

Find everything you need to improve your scores with a well documented approach. Companies such as Kaplan and Princeton Review specialize in taking students through core material to raise scores. Their well known name comes with an improvement guarantee. Along with the methodical approach and expected score improvement comes at a high cost, which can soar into four figures. For those with the means that are short on time, this can be an attractive option. Those who don't other options exist.
